Nick Kyrgios and Pablo Carreno Busta’s curious war of words continued on Friday, the night before the Spaniard will compete in the semi-finals of the US Open.

Kyrgios has not travelled to New York but has clearly been keeping an eye on proceedings at Flushing Meadows, offering his thoughts regularly on social media.

He couldn’t resist a dig at Carreno Busta earlier in the tournament, posting a tweet, that was later deleted, saying: ‘If clay didn’t exist. Dude wouldn’t have even been close to top 50.’

The Spaniard, who will contest his second US Open semi-final against fifth seed Alexander Zverev on Friday, was asked about the comments and suggested the Aussie bad boy was ‘bored’.

Carreno Busta said: ‘He must be pretty bored… when he comes back to tournaments, we will talk about him because he deserves it.

‘And in the meantime, well nothing, he will continue to tweet from home.’

The remarks clearly got back to Kyrgios, who posted a picture of his winning head-to-head record against Carreno Busta on Instagram.

Along with the snap, he replied: ‘Obviously would have love to be playing the US Open but due to conditions didn’t feel comfortable.

‘Yes Carreno Busta I’m a little bored and I would rather be chopping you again. 2-0 #shhh.’

Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev will contest the other US Open semi-final.
