Netflix Hits Pause On “Magic Order” Series

Netflix Hits Pause On Magic Order Series

Netflix has reportedly halted development on the forthcoming James Wan-produced series adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic “The Magic Order”.

The six issue comic follows five families of magicians sworn to protect our world for generations and must battle an enemy who’s picking them off one by one.

The project is still in the scripting process and had not yet begun casting, but was eyeing an early 2021 production start date in Prague with early pre-production underway.

However, due to the ambitious scope of the project and its globe-spanning nature, Netflix has opted to pull the plug for now. The streamer is reportedly still interested in developing a series adaptation in the future as the comic-book launch was the highest-selling new launch in nearly twenty years.

The Czech Republic is currently seeing a record number of new pandemic infections this week, including reportedly at least one member of the production team, and as rates in Europe grow there’s a sense of uncertainty for film and TV productions once again.

Lindsey Beer is serving as writer/showrunner on the series with Andre Ovredal attached to direct the pilot episode.
