Top Gun Maverick Spongebob Pushed Back

If the abandonment of the first half of 2021 by major features continues in the coming weeks, it could mean that Joseph Kosinski’s “Top Gun: Maverick” might be the film to welcome the public back to cinemas en masse.

A new report in The Wall Street Journal indicates that Paramount Pictures was approached by both Netflix and Apple about the possibility of buying the distribution rights for the film, and the studio turned them down.

Indeed Paramount, who has sold numerous planned theatrical releases to Netflix in the past, is adamant about ‘Maverick’ going to cinemas and are much more willing to wait than to sell.

Whether the world will be ready to receive it is less clear. The film has already been delayed a full year from its originally planned bow in July last year and could very well shift again.
