Rodriguez Skydance To Reboot Spy Kids

Skydance Media and Spyglass Media Group are teaming to reboot Robert Rodriguez’s family movie franchise “Spy Kids”.

Skydance has optioned the rights for a new film in the series from owner Spyglass and Rodriguez who will write and direct. Skydance will serve as the lead studio and oversee both development and production.

The series launched in 2001 and was followed by three sequels with the last, “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World,” releasing in 2011. The franchise has earned over $550 million at the worldwide box office.

The new entry isn’t a sequel, rather a ‘reimagining’ that will once again revolve around the activities of a multicultural family involved in the world of espionage.

Rodriguez recently dabbled again in this genre with Netflix’s “We Can Be Heroes” which released only a few weeks ago.
