Scream Falls Behind Spidey At Box Office

After his crown was taken last week by the new “Scream,” Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is back on top of the U.S. box-office this weekend as “Spider-Man: No Way Home” reclaimed the top spot in its sixth weekend of release.

The comic book sequel added another $14.1 million, though had little in the way of competition as the only real big new release, the faith-based “Redeeming Love,” tanked with a dismal $3.7 million in fourth place.

Spidey has now snagged $721 million at the domestic box office to date, making it the fourth-highest grossing domestic release in history. Globally it’s in sixth place with $1.69 billion.

The long-shelved fantasy adventure “The King’s Daughter” also got trotted out and snagged a mere $750,000 across 2,170 screens for eighth place and one of the worst opening weekends of all time.

“Scream” came in second with $12.4 million, a 59% decline from opening weekend. “Sing 2” was in third with $5.7 million from its fifth weekend of release and has now become the highest-grossing animated film in pandemic times. “The King’s Man” came in fifth with a further $1.8 million.

It’s expected cinemas won’t see much of a bump until “Uncharted” on February 18th and “The Batman” on March 4th.
