Filmmaker Zack Snyder has recently teased two of his upcoming directorial efforts – his “Army of the Dead” zombie movie follow-up “Planet of the Dead,” and the ambitious sci-fi fantasy “Rebel Moon”.

Speaking with GamesRadar about ‘Planet’, he seems to confirm something of a fan theory about a time loop being in play which ties to the safes seen in “Army of the Dead,” the just released prequel “Army of Thieves,” and Hiroyuki Sanada’s villain character Bly Tanaka:

“I’m a huge fan of this mythological understory. All your time loop fun that you can have, there’s a lot of cool enhancements that are baked in now. I can’t wait to make the sequel to Army of the Dead, so that we can see how then all of those things manifest.”

The time loop element was hinted at with some dialogue choices in the film, and the discovery of several bodies outside of Tanaka’s vault with similar clothing to themselves and a key that looks identical to the necklace of a character.

Meanwhile, with “Rebel Moon,” an original script reworked from a failed “Star Wars” pitch, Snyder says this will be bigger than anything he’s done before and tells of a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. A young woman with a mysterious past seeks out warriors from neighbouring planets to help them make a stand.

Snyder talked to BroBible (via Collider) about the scale of the film and how it compares to one of the better films in his back catalogue:

“Frankly what I’m really interested in with Rebel Moon is creating a romantic sci-fi film on a scale that is, frankly, as big as you can make a movie. I’ve never done a science-fiction film at this scale. The beginning of ‘Man of Steel’ on Krypton has pretty big sci-fi elements, but it’s still Krypton and there are certain iconographic things that you have to do. And that’s kind of what we’re doing in ‘Rebel Moon,’ but on the biggest steroids I can give it… [its] a culmination of my love of mythology and my love of giant movies and action and really just epic cinema.”

That film is still years away so no word as to when it might go into production.
