Two More Gamestop Projects In The Works

The news headlines regarding the Reddit WallStreetBets community, GameStop stock and the shake-up of the stock market really only began about a week ago – but Hollywood is moving fast.

Earlier today we reported on MGM landing the rights to “The Antisocial Network,” a book proposal from author Ben Mezrich about the millions of small-time investors who have banded together to put the squeeze on at least two hedge funds shorting the stock of beleaguered retailer Gamestop.

Now two more projects have joined the mix. Netflix has a version in the works too and it may be the most advanced of the three as they have already enlisted Oscar-winning “Zero Dark Thirty” writer Mark Boal to pen the script and actor Noah Centineo to lead the cast.

While it will touch upon how regular people invested in GameStop in droves and screwed over Wall Street hedge funds, it is spreading a wider net to include the Capitol insurrection. Its aim is to explore the overall issue of how social media has levelled the playing field in various ways and allowed the challenging of status quo gatekeepers – both for good and bad.

Then there’s a TV series called “To the Moon” which is being produced by Pinky Promise and penned by Noam Tomaschoff. Tomaschoff has reportedly met with long-time, active members of that particular Reddit community to ensure accuracy.

That series follows two roommates laid off from their jobs at GameStop and AMC who use their stimulus checks to dip into the world of day trading. Other potential rival projects are also said to be mobilizing so we may see more.
