Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves heaped praise on Paul Pogba for his ‘class’ performance against AC Milan as Manchester United booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Pogba came on for Marcus Rashford at half-time and scored within a matter of minutes – the only goal in a 1-0 win at the San Siro.

That secured a 2-1 win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side on aggregate and Scholes was satisfied it was a case of ‘job done’ for United, with Pogba the difference maker.

‘Yeah, they’ve got the job done,’ United legend Scholes told BT Sport. ‘I don’t think they were special on the night.

‘That man there [Pogba] really did make a difference. Not just his goal but I think he livened everybody else up.

‘It wasn’t a special performance, it didn’t need a special performance, just a victory. Henderson made a great save as well towards the end. Job done. Quarter-finals.

‘Pogba was really good when he came on. Came into that left-hand side position. Showed bits of quality right from the off and livened everybody up.

‘He’s different. He can create. He can score goals.’

Hargreaves, the former United midfielder, added: ‘He played fabulous when he came on.

‘He just added a touch of class. The goal was great. Everything about his performance second half was top drawer.

‘United let’s be honest, they were the better team. Milan played decent but didn’t create much. I think for Ole, he rises to the big occasion. He did today and so did Paul Pogba.

‘He’s always looking for the ball. Always wanting to turn on the shoulder. He made the difference tonight. He added that touch of class when Man United really needed it.’
