Richard Hammond has confirmed that The Grand Tour’s new special will air later this year.

The upcoming one-off, tentatively titled by fans ‘The Scotland Special’, was filmed last year in between lockdowns, reuniting Hammond with his petrolhead pals Jeremy Clarkson and James May.

Ahead of the release of his solo series, The Great Escapists, Hammond appeared on Good Morning Britain and teased the future of the series.

He told Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid: ‘There’s another special coming up and we managed to get one done.

‘I mean, it’s difficult going anywhere because obviously it’s about travel and that’s been off the cards. But there is another one, coming out later on this year.

‘I don’t know when though.’

Clarkson, Hammond and May finished filming the Scotland Special in October last year, shortly before the second lockdown.

They were spotted in the Highlands driving classic American cars, and later shared a photo together announcing they were back to work together.

While the results of their latest adventure may be a while off from being aired, the trio have at least come up with their own solo shows to keep us glued to our sofas.

The Great Escapists, released on Friday, sees Hammond testing himself against the elements in a Castaway inspired show.

Join forces with Mythbusters’ Tony Belleci, the pop-science series depicts the pair trying to survive on a desert island, using their skills and knowledge to create a treehouse, a sandcar and a raft in bids to escape.

Following that Clarkson has said his series about building a farm from scratch is expected to be released in June.

The Grand Tour is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
