Reported Arsenal and Tottenham transfer target Dusan Vlahovic has refused to rule out signing a contract extension with Fiorentina.

Vlahovic has emerged as one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe amidst his terrific form for Fiorentina in Serie A.

The 21-year-old has scored 16 in 20 league matches this term after an impressive 2020/21 campaign in which he netted 21 times.

Arsenal and Spurs have emerged as the two sides battling it out for the Serbia international, with a report last month claiming the Gunners are ‘ready to pay’ £68m for the striker in January.

However, Vlahovic has insisted he could sign a contract extension with Fiorentina, despite previous reports indicating he had no intention of doing so.

“I have stated this several times in the past, a beautiful football story is being made here in Florence,” he said (quotes via 90min).

“We have a good team, great football players and great support from the fans. They all deserve respect.

“Only God knows what will happen in the next period of my career, but my wish is to bring Fiorentina to Europe, because we have not been in Europe for a long time.

“I don’t know what can happen overnight. We’ll see.”

On signing a new contract, Vlahovic said: “Never say never. But at the moment I am focused on winning matches.”

Tottenham could turn their attention elsewhere, with Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku emerging as a surprise target for the north Londoners.

The £98million striker was dropped by manager Thomas Tuchel for Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday after voicing his frustration at the club in an interview which was released earlier in the week.

And now Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Spurs could pursue a deal for Lukaku in the summer transfer window.

The report adds that a transfer to Spurs would only be possible in the summer, with no chance of a January move for the Belgian.

Lukaku enjoyed a terrific spell at Inter Milan under Spurs’ current head coach Antonio Conte. The pair won the Serie A title together last term.
