Gareth Southgate has some big decisions to make before England’s Euros openerWe asked you to put yourselves in Gareth Southgate’s shoes and pick England’s starting line-up to face Croatia in their Euro 2020 opener on 13 June.

You did not disappoint – more than 275,000 teams were submitted.

The results were very interesting, with some big names missing out.

A massive 67.43% of you want to see the Three Lions start with a 4-3-3 formation. And here are the players who made the cut…

GoalkeeperEngland fans appear almost entirely split down the middle when it comes to who should be England’s number one.

Manchester United’s Dean Henderson edged out Jordan Pickford by the smallest of margins, appearing in just 0.5% more teams than his Everton counterpart.

Despite keeping a clean sheet against Romania on his England debut, only 4.77% of you thought Sam Johnstone deserved to start against Croatia.

DefendersHow do you choose between a Premier League and League Cup winning right-back, a Champions League winning right-back and a La Liga winning right-back?

Kyle Walker (37.24%) just about got the nod ahead of Reece James (35.31 %), leaving Kieran Trippier as your third-choice, making 13.58 % of your teams.

Choosing your left-back gave you less of a headache, with Luke Shaw the overwhelming favourite in that position. However, Ben Chilwell was actually selected more often overall, reflecting the fact he was picked both by people who wanted to play with an orthodox left-back and also by those employing wing-backs.

John Stones was the third-most selected player overall, and, despite being unlikely to feature through injury, Harry Maguire was chosen to start alongside him at centre-back. Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings was next in line to complete the England defence should Maguire miss out with his ankle ligament injury

MidfieldersThis team suggests BBC Sport readers want Southgate to be ultra attacking and play one holding midfielder.

There’s no place for Jordan Henderson, with Declan Rice favoured to start alongside Mason Mount and Phil Foden, who was the second-most picked player overall.

ForwardsThere is no surprise that England captain Harry Kane was picked more than any other player by our readers. But it may come as a surprise that Jadon Sancho was a popular choice to play alongside the Premier League Golden Boot winner.

Although Marcus Rashford was the most-picked player in the left-wing position, Jack Grealish completes your starting XI with over 100,000 more selections overall, his picks being split between a host of midfield and forward roles.

Raheem Sterling, a certainty to start had the tournament taken place in 2020 as originally scheduled, could not get anywhere near your Three Lions XI.

The final starting XI chosen by BBC Sport users – but who will Gareth Southgate go for?In fact, out of Southgate’s 26-man squad, only eight players received fewer selections than the Manchester City forward.

You can still pick your XI but your selections won’t be counted towards the result – don’t forget to share your picks on social media using #bbcfootball.
