Pep Guardiola also claimed that Bayern Munich are still the “best team in Europe” despite Manchester City’s 20-game winning streak in all competitions.

On Saturday, Man City extended their winning run in all competitions to 20 games. Ruben Dias and John Stones got on the scoresheet as Guardiola’s side beat West Ham 2-1.

This run – which dates back to December – has seen them run clear at the top of the Premier League. They are now 12 points ahead of their nearest rivals Manchester United.

This form has fuelled talk that Man City should be considered the best team in world football. Guardiola was quick to refute this at his recent press conference, as cited by BBC Sport:

“The best team in Europe is Bayern Munich because they won everything.

“In England the champions are Liverpool, they are the best.

“If you want to take the crown, you have to win. No-one is champion in March.”

This is an important week for Manchester City. They host Wolves at the Etihad on Tuesday night before they face arch-rivals Man United on Sunday.

Guardiola highlighted how dangerous these upcoming games are for City.

He added: “There are still 36 points to play for and in England, every team can lose and lose and lose games in a row in one week.

“As a team we have to play well and run a lot without the ball to get the points to be close to the champions at the end.

“Tomorrow we have a tough opponent in Wolves (did the double over City last season), then (Manchester) United, after Southampton, then Fulham, who are playing very well.

“When you have 10 points left or 12 or 15 it is another issue but 36 is a lot.”
