Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey is one of Arsenal’s main targets this summer, but the fee appears to be a stumbling block, according to reports.

The Spanish giants are believed to want to keep the Ghanian, who they see as an important player. But if they are to let him go, the club buying him will have to fork out £44.5 million to meet his release clause.

The midfielder has been linked with the Gunners a lot over the last few months as speculation has swirled about his future.

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Partey have recently been boosted, however. This comes as Goal reports that the 27-year-old would be ‘keen’ on a move to the Emirates.

With the player open to moving to the Premier League, money is the only factor preventing this deal from happening.

The Gunners have reportedly attempted to offer Matteo Guendouzi as part of a cash plus player deal for Partey. But Atletico are holding firm and will only let their man leave if Arsenal or another side meets his release clause.

Having already brought in Willian and given him a big-money contract, Arsenal may have to sell some players to facilitate a move for Partey.

It is clear to see why the Ghana international is a key target for the Gunners. The 27-year-old has been a mainstay in a strong Atletico Madrid side for the past three seasons.

He has also been capped 27 times for Ghana since 2016 and is just the type of player Arsenal need to sort out their defensive midfield woes.
