Leicester see Brentford’s Ivan Toney as a long-term successor to Jamie Vardy and will reportedly aim to sign him this summer.

Toney has become a star player in the Championship and is the division’s top scorer on 24 goals.

That’s led to plenty of links with Premier League clubs, including the Foxes and Arsenal.

According to the Daily Mirror, Leicester are weighing up a move for Toney this summer.

Their scouts are currently looking at replacements for Vardy.

Toney has emerged as their top target following his impressive exploits in the Championship.

Vardy is now 34 years old, which means he is entering the final few years of his career.

His understudy at the King Power is Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho.

However, club officials don’t see the 24-year-old as an effective long-term solution.

He’s bagged just one goal in 12 league appearances this term.

Toney, meanwhile, is proving to be incredibly dangerous in front of goal. His form has sent Brentford to second in the table as they pursue promotion to the Premier League.

The Englishman can also provide for his teammates. He’s achieved nine assists in 30 appearances.

Leicester believe Toney would link up well with the likes of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes in attack.

Signing the player could prove to be another good piece of business from the East Midlands side.

They’re aiming to get a Champions League place of their own this season and currently sit in third place.

Toney could help them to maintain their top six position, as they battle with the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea.

He looks set to become the latest Brentford star to secure a major Premier League move.

Said Benrahma joined West Ham in October on an initial loan deal. The London side made the move permanent in January by paying Brentford £30million.

Ollie Watkins has been a hit since joining Aston Villa from the Bees. He’s already reached ten league goals which will give Leicester confidence that Toney can adapt to become a top striker.
