Ian Wright was not happy with how England performed in Friday night’s 0-0 draw at home to Scotland, and seemed to question Gareth Southgate’s tactical decisions.

The Three Lions only registered one shot on target at Wembley as they drew a blank against their historic rivals, who arguably created the better chances on the night.

As England chased a goal in the second half, Southgate made the bold call to withdraw captain and top scorer Harry Kane, who struggled to make an impact, and Phil Foden, who many feel was one of England’s liveliest attackers. Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford came on but struggled to make an impact.

Speaking on ITV after the match, Wright was unhappy with the decisions the England manager made during the game. He questioned the decision to withdraw Foden, and to leave Jadon Sancho – who he pointed out registered 15 goals and 20 assists in the Bundesliga last season – as an unused substitute.

Roy Keane and Gary Neville echoed the former Arsenal striker’s criticisms on what was a disappointing night.

“There’s no way Foden should be leaving the pitch today… you’ve got Sancho on the bench – 15 goals and 20 assists a season – and he doesn’t even get on. We need to create… I’m embarrassed for us today.”
