Everton midfielder Donny van de Beek has revealed that he is keen to prove people at Manchester United “wrong” before the end of the season.

Man Utd signed the midfielder from Dutch giants Ajax for around £34m in 2020.

This move has not gone to plan as Van de Beek barely featured for the Red Devils following this transfer.

What does Usmanov assets freeze mean to Everton?

The Dutchman was given permission to depart Man Utd in January. He joined Everton on loan before the transfer window closed.

This transfer was completed hours after Frank Lampard was appointed as Rafael Benitez’s replacement.

Van de Beek has impressed as he has featured in Everton’s last four Premier League games.

He has suggested that it is his “aim” to show that “some people are wrong” about him:

“If I play well, I do it for them, for my girlfriend and for my family and friends,” Van de Beek said (via the Express).

“I want to give joy to those people. And to the fans. Then I want to do it for myself.”

Van de Beek went onto suggest that he is keen to alter people’s perception of him before this season ends:

“Of course, sometimes I am disappointed and frustrated.

“But I always try to stay positive and believe there will be a day it will change. I can only change it with hard work.

“I want to show that some people are wrong and I still have the quality to play, I always aim to do this.”

Man Utd are currently on the lookout for a new permanent manager. They have been linked with Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag.

The club’s football director – John Murtough – has insisted that they are “conducting a thorough process for the appointment”:

“We know that consistency is key as we strive for a top-four finish this season,” Murtough said.

“I want to reiterate however that this is not the ultimate objective for Manchester United, and everyone at the club is focused on challenging for the top trophies.

“We are now conducting a thorough process for the appointment of a new permanent manager who will take charge this summer, with the objective to get us back to challenging for those domestic and European titles.”
